On the Braun website there is a 5-year warranty on the registered product? Does that mean that the first 2 years are covered by galaxus and then you can send it directly to braun? then you wouldn't have to extend the warranty with galaxus at all

Correct, after the 2 years the manufacturer would handle the entire process.
The warranty extension would just make it easier as there are no different parties involved.
The extended warranty is simply offered as standard, but there are other options with this product.
