Is it also the case that the cable only goes into the lower USB-C port with a lot of effort? The upper one works fine for me, I returned the first device with this problem, received a new one and again the same...

I bought two pieces in white (and without cables) and have just tested them again to be sure. On both my power adapters, the plugs fit cleanly and without difficulty on all three connections.
