Is this the right one for the new generation mac mini or do I need the one that looks like a box (like a hard drive). Thank you!

But it looks like you can't upgrade the SSD because the hard drive is soldered to the mainboard (see https://www.macrumors.com/2018...).
So neither the box nor the card will work.
