Is this DAC suitable for the Audio-Technica M50x, I want to get the maximum out of the headphones.

Certainly not ideal. The frequency range of the FiiO Q1 (20 - 20,000 Hz) will severely limit that of the Audio-Technica M50x (15 - 28,000 Hz), and the sampling rates of the FiiO Q1 are not exactly top. An external DAC is quickly better than one built into a pc, iphone or laptop, but the best USB DAC/headphone amplifier for around CHF 100 or 200 is by far the 'Dragonfly' from Audioquest. Better ones are only available from 400.-/500.-.
