Is there a possibility to use the control via API with Nanoleaf Canvas or is this only available with Nanoleaf Aurora? Does anyone have experience with this?

The nanoleaf canvas can also be controlled via the api. As described in the API documentation.
I used the API to integrate my Nanoleaf Canvas via openhab and it works without any problems.
