Is there a big delay with an HDMI cable?

I would recommend DisplayPort for this monitor for the 144Hz and G-Sync, which is not supported via HDMI according to my information.

Physically, every signal is subject to latency (information from one end to another end).
The longer the cable, the more time the information needs to travel.
Given the speed (75% of the speed of light, 225,000m/s), really no problem.

Just buy a good HDMI cable with low attenuation (e.g. also with gold contacts) and as short as necessary, then everything should be optimal.
Have fun!
