Is the following situation possible? This USB hub is connected to my laptop and my printer and a USB stick are connected to the hub. Can I connect my PC to the hub with another USB connection cable? The idea would be to be able to print from both devices and have access to the stick. Is that possible?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. The USB protocol always requires 1 host (computer) and 1 device (keyboard, printer, stick). A hub makes it possible to connect 1 host and several devices, but never a second host.
With USB-OTG (On the Go) it is possible to use a mobile phone as a host instead of a device, so you can connect a keyboard to the mobile phone, and connect the mobile phone as a device to the computer from time to time, but two hosts never work.
If you want to connect laptop and computer to the same storage, you need a NAS (Network attached Storage). Unfortunately more expensive than this hub.
By the way, my hub has worked very well for a long time.
So you want to use the USB hub like an Ethernet switch? Connect the printer and the laptop and the PC to it, so that the PC and laptop can use the printer?
Good question. Dumb answer: Yes, you can certainly connect it. But whether anything will run afterwards and, above all, what - no idea.
I've asked myself the same question - but I've never tried it.
What I do know is that there are special devices exactly for this purpose - but they are not simple hubs. They have a bit more logic in them for plug management and power supply.
Sorry I don't have a better answer. I hope that someone from the community can shed some light on this.
BTW: I really can't recommend this hub from my own experience. I do NOT recommend buying it, I've only had trouble with it.
