Is it true that this card does not fit into the M2 slot in which a Samsung 960 is inserted?

Yes, that is correct. This is a WLAN card in the so-called M.2 E-Key format, which is not compatible with the M.2 SSD slot on a PC's mainboard, which uses M.2 B- or M-Keys. However, some mainboards have both connections.

Therefore, check the specification of a mainboard in each case. At Asus, the slots are shown like this:

(Under Storage Memory)
1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280 storage devices support (SATA & PCIE 3.0 x 4 mode)
1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (PCIE 3.0 x 4 mode)

(Under Internal I/O-Internal Connectors)
1 x M.2 Socket 1 with E key, type 2230 for Wi-Fi/BT devices support or PCIE/USB mode

My motherboard is AsRock z370 Killer SLI. I only see the M.2 ultra slot. Is this the slot that can be used for this card? I can't find any other detail regarding the M.2 slots on this motherboard.
