Is it possible to use the microphone on the PC without an adapter? Unfortunately, the answers are contradictory.

If you have an extra microphone input, it should work. On a notebook, however, there are usually combined inputs/outputs for headsets, so you would need the adapter for TRRS. Or you can order the smartLav incl. adapter, then it will certainly work one way or the other: RØDE smartLav+ incl. SC3 Adapter TRRS to TRS (Mono)
