Is it possible to connect the microphone directly to a MacBook with a headphone input and use it to record sound? Or do I need an adapter?

An adapter is required as the headphone input is only intended for headphones or headset, but not for microphone alone. RØDE 3.5mm jack - 3.5mm socket (0.17 m)
