Is it conceivable to mount a monitor "around the corner" on a wall with this bracket? In other words, the bracket would be mounted on the back of a pillar, and the screen would then be laterally offset in the same direction as the bracket would be screwed into the pillar.

Depends on the width of the column, but theoretically no problem.

This should work without any problems, depending of course on the size of the monitor and the width of the column!
