yes it is compatible with the fenix 3, but it will only give you heart rate. The fenix 3 has running dynamics functions that give you information about your cadence, ground contact time and vertical oscillation. These functions are only available with a HRM-RUN belt (https://www.digitec.ch/fr/s1/product/garmin-puls-sendegurt-hrm-run-noir-matiere-plastique-montres-de-sport-accessoires-3451437). (You can differentiate it with a white engraved runner in the middle of the belt below "Garmin")
