Is it better to install WIN on a conventional ssd and use the M.2 purely as a storage medium?
M.2 is the type of interface/connection. The term "conventional SSD" probably refers to 2.5" SSDs. They use SATA as the interface. Both are "conventional" SSDs.
I would install Windows on M.2 SSDs because this interface can be faster than SATA.
I would always install the operating system (e.g. Windows) and the most important applications and games on the fastest memory.
