Is it also worth buying if you are not aiming for 360-degree videos but want to take "normal" video shots? Or is the "Insta360 Go" more worthwhile then?
In my opinion, a Go Pro Hero 10 is more worthwhile for normal action cam recordings. It offers 5.7K in 60p. And all of this is directed forwards in the normal way. This still exceeds the quality of "single lens" videos from the X3 by far!
The X3 is a 360° camera, which can also be used for a bit to make normal action cam scenes in "medium quality". However, its strengths are mainly as a 360° camera, with all its advantages, reframing, etc.
Only if you want to shoot 360° from time to time would I go for the X3.
If you don't want to film 360°, a go pro offers better quality for the same price.
I personally find reframing a great enrichment for action shots and together with the Invisible Selfie Stick (and various mounts) very unusual perspectives can be chosen - in which everything you want is 100% in view. It certainly depends on what you are doing. But this is at an acceptable quality that not so long ago even action cams could not deliver. And I think the X3 has also made progress again.
Absolutely. It's much better than GoPro. Runs stable and doesn't get warm.
The Insta360 X3 allows you to film in 4k with Single Lens Mode, which sets it apart from all other 360 action cams.
What's good about 360 is that you can use reframing to set the blink angle. I don't shoot 360 degrees either, but I have the freedom to decide at any time which angle I want to use. You only ever get 1080p, but in good lighting conditions you can extrapolate it well with Da Vinci, for example.
What the 360 also captures particularly well is the "steepness" of terrain. Whereas with normal action cam clips you never really realise exactly how steep something is (e.g. with bike edits).
It's certainly not the best cam for lowlight, but in general most cams are not very good at this.
As a non 360 degree alternative I would currently recommend the: Insta360 One RS 1-Inch Edition. In my opinion, it's a bit better than the GoPro.
