Audioengine D1 24-Bit Dac
USB-DAC
Is a DAC only worthwhile with good monitor speakers or does it also make sense to use it with the JBL 5.1, for example? Or does this system already have one integrated? Thank you!
It depends on the playback device. In principle, a DAC is already integrated in every output device with a jack or RCA plug, etc. The DAC can be connected to the headphone jack of a laptop, for example. For example, the headphone connection on a laptop uses the integrated DAC of the onboard sound card.
In my case, it was so bad that I can hear the difference even on a logitech z506 5.1 with the audioengine D1. However, when I compare it with my entry-level Yamaha AVR as a playback device, I no longer notice any difference. The added value increases with better speakers, but don't expect too much. Among the external DACs, the D1 is also only entry-level.
But beware: the audioengine D1 only supports stereo. I use it mainly for the headphones.
Let's assume I buy the s8 subwoofer from audioengine later... this has an audio in and audio out... can I connect other speakers there, for example, or what is the audio out on the sub normally intended for? Or which sub would you recommend?
