I'm on holiday in Canada and I can no longer charge the brand new power bank from the mains or USB plug. Is this perhaps due to the different voltage or is the powerbank simply defective?

You will need a USB power adapter for charging. This must be compatible with the lower mains voltage. Can you charge your mobile with the USB power supply? If yes = Powerbank defective / If no = USB power supply defective/incompatible
