If the headphones are used, can a second person watch TV normally (without headphones) with sound from the speakers?

I have connected my headphones to the UPC box (not directly to the TV), which is why other people in the room hear the sound from the TV (for the headphones this then results in a slight echo, but this is not very annoying).
