If I want to connect a turntable to my existing MusicCast network (5 MusicCast speakers and a Yamaha MusicCast CD player) via stereo RCA, do I need the WXC-50 preamplifier or the WXA-50 stereo amplifier? Or are there simpler/cheaper solutions?
I assume that they are active speakers - therefore the preamplifier is sufficient. However, the AUX input there requires an additional preamplifier for the record player (approx. Fr. 100.- for good quality devices).
A Yamaha Musiccast turntable would be ideal. Otherwise, one that has a built-in preamplifier, because there is no phono pre-amp in the WX units. For listening to music, either Musiccast active speakers, in which case the WXC is sufficient, or passive speakers, in which case the WXA is needed. If space constraints do not dictate the equipment, a small MCR or TSR receiver (can also receive FM and some DAB) would be a cheaper choice. Important, only the WXC has digital input AND output! The WXA has no digital inputs, but the stereo audio amplifiers do.
