Planned Obsolescence. Schade. On both Windows and Mac, the USB interface can also be used without the Sony software.
In Windows, the Sony turntable must be activated in the sound properties (otherwise it is only activated when the Sony software is used). > Settings > system > sound > Manage audio devices > Input devices > Select the record player PS-HX500 and set it to active.
The player must be connected and switched on. Record with e.g. Audacity Select the recording source MME on the left. On the Mac, the player is recognisable as a device in the >system settings >Sound > Input source. With Audacity, the setting on the left must be set to Core and the selection on the right must be set to the record player.
I wouldn't say "obsolescence" because even Intel didn't expect their flagship processors (i7 / i9 - 11th gen) to be overtaken by Apple. If anything, it's Apple's fault, because since the Catalina update, 32bit applications no longer work (as well as old applications) and strangely enough, they release a new processor that ONLY runs on 32bit applications or 64bit ARM applications.
