I would like to use this display on my 2014 Mac mini 5.2. Of course, this does not yet have USB-C. The image signal would come via HDMI and the power from the separate power supply unit. That leaves the "touch signal": can I "simply" connect the screen via a USB2-to-USB-C cable and use the touch function?

You can connect the display to your 2014 Mac mini 5.2 via HDMI for the image signal and ensure the power supply via the separate power supply unit. However, a USB-C connection that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode is required for the touch function. A simple USB2 to USB-C cable is not sufficient as the USB-C port also transmits the touch data and USB 2.0 does not fully support this function.
This means that you need a USB-C port on the Mac or a suitable adapter with USB-C and DisplayPort Alt Mode for the touch function. Otherwise, only image transmission via HDMI will work, but not touch control.
