I would like to use the headphones for an Android device. Once I have connected the AirPods, will they recognise my Android phone immediately when I open the box?

I used the AirPods with my Nexus 6P for a while. Yes, the AirPods connect as soon as you take them out of the case. However, double tapping an AirPod doesn't work and the music doesn't automatically pause when you take them out of your ears.

Use the Airpods with my Honor 10, they connect faster than when I try to connect them with my iPhone 6. As Ms4k said, the features like double tap for Siri and stop music by "pulling the plug" are only available for iPhone.
They are still worth the price though.
