with this model there is no background noise cancellation. you hear what the person next to you is saying - always depending on how loud you listen to your music.
with models with noise cancellation, you hear little or nothing from the person next to you.

It depends on the volume of the music. In this case, you can set the volume to maximum.
Please put the headset on so that both ear pads are firmly over the whole ear to minimise ambient noise as much as possible.

Hello, often times imagination takes us beyond the limits of analyzing this headphone set into something else that is not related or unnecessary !
- This is what is important, Sony's over the ear headphones cover most of the ears well enough like an ear protector worn by construction workers using jackhammers in noisy environments, if that noise protector has tiny speakers inside they can hear music or communications meant for them on top of the muffled noise from outside, overwhelming the noise inside.
- Sony WH-CH520 is a very new long battery time, low cost headphone that works well for me when I want, at home I do not expect to hear anything else but I would like to hear my phone ringing or the door bell ringing or kitchen alarms, fire alarms go off, beyond that a top of the line noise cancelling products are the choice, paying the extra premium, like listening to music in the outer space without any other noise at all !
- The choice is yours, I find the price and quality of Sony WH-CH520 very attractive, it is music to my ears !
