I was sceptical at first, but I think it's really cool. How is it with notifications, does it work without problems? What is your experience with Xiaomi and security?

At the time of the Mi5, there were inconsistencies with the feedback app from Xiaomi, if I remember correctly. But that is no longer a problem. Updates come fairly regularly even with the stable ROM, and MIUI 10 should be coming soon anyway.
Notifications work well for me since I disabled the "Xiaomi Optimization" in the Developer Settings (at the bottom). This even makes the battery last longer, because the device no longer constantly shuts down apps in the background and they have to be restarted. Even with a Garmin smartwatch, communication works perfectly, all messages come through and nothing is delayed.
