Question about Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 II Di LD MACRO 1:2, Nikon F

I wanted to ask if I am correct in my assumption that this AF lens works with my D5300 but has no autofocus then because my camera does not have its own motor?

This lens has a built-in motor and also works on a d5300. I used it myself for a while. But it is a super-zoom lens, which are always worse than the fixed focal lengths. If you are looking for a macro lens, you are much better off with a fixed focal length. (e.g. Tamron 90mm)
But otherwise a great value lens! For 125.- you can't say much bad about this item...
