I use this and other lenses on a D50, would it also fit on a D3300? I'm thinking of buying the D3300 body or not.

Helpful answer

I use the lens on a D610 and D750 and I am thrilled with the price-performance ratio of the lens. According to the Nikon compatibility list, autofocus is not supported on the D3300.
supported. See NIKON website:

This lens has no internal autofocus motor, i.e. the body must drive the autofocus. The "simpler" Nikons do not have this drive. As far as I know, this is the case from the Nikon D7xxx onwards. For the D5xxx and D3xxx I would therefore only recommend lenses of the AF-S type (i.e. with integrated AF motor).

I bought this lens about a year and a half ago and use it on a D3X and a D810. It works perfectly and the autofocus is supported with these cameras. I don't know any other cameras. I appreciate the enormous speed and the light weight. The distortion can be corrected perfectly in Photoshop - since I work exclusively with RAW images and mainly need final formats for the web and A5 flyers, the lens is absolutely sufficient for me. For the company froehlicharchitektur.ch I photographed all portraits with it. Since I hardly ever use a flash, a lot is possible in rather dark rooms thanks to the light intensity and a tuned high ISO. For the low price and full compatibility, it's a great lens - I would buy again :-)

The lens fits and works for sure, but the autofocus will not work. This lens has a small screw for autofocus (like all "AF-D" lenses) and the D3000 and D5000 series do not have this screw. The D7000 series does have this screw, autofocus would work there too. I would not actually recommend the D3300. This lens is the fastest I have in terms of autofocus. So it would be a shame to use it only with manual focus.
