I understand that the screen of a smartphone and tablet can be streamed via Miracast. However, since Apple relies on its AirPlay service, I wanted to know if this function is also supported or if I need an AppleTv box to mirror an Apple device.

I can't answer this question because I connect the beamer and the iPad via HDMI adapters. I suspect that a direct connection via AirPlay does not work.
