Question about ASUS ROG ASTRAL RTX 5080 GAMING OC

I still have an RTX 3080TI and have been thinking about an upgrade for some time. However, I'm still undecided when it comes to choosing a new card... I'm considering an RTX 5080 or an RTX 5090 (yes, it's expensive, I know. But I've already seen some price drops of the 5090 elsewhere which would be manageable for me) Now to my question, is the 16GB of the RTX 5080 worth it in the long term? The 5090 seems a bit over the top to me with its 32GB. Sure, you have peace of mind with it for a long time, but won't a 5080 be enough for a long time? I don't want to invest twice because I was too reckless.
