Question about GoPro El Grande
I see a thread at the bottom of the extension pole, is this the standard thread as it is with other accessories? Could I theoretically attach a tripod there?

It has an integrated ball joint at the end of the pole for adjusting the camera angle or rotating the camera 360 degrees. This is not interchangeable. A standard GoPro mount is fitted into the ball joint and is compatible with all common GoPros. There are various adapters that can be fitted into the mount and thus provide a mount for other photo products.
Examples:
Nikon AA-1A Base Adapter (Various Mounts)
Sony Hot Shoe Mount (Various Mounts)
Nikon AA-1B Base Adapter (Various Mounts)
