I need a new, larger hard drive ... For an intensively used computer (runs daily, all day, not at night), what is the best way to install it internally as normal ? with a long service life. - I once read the following about server hard disks: they don't make sense for private use, the advantages don't come into play, but the disadvantages do. In the size where I would need them (18 - 20 TB) there are many variants for which I can't find any clever information: - Seagate IronWolf Pro High WRL - expensive - Seagate Exos - cheap - Seagate Barracuda: too small - WD Gold - according to the name the most expensive available - Toshiba MG - also cheap WD Red Plus are apparently only for NAS WD Red and Blue are too small with max. 4 TB - WD Black also, they are for "gaming" - not my area WD Green are SSDs
@Compi: Take an SSD and pay attention to the TBW values.
@NAS: I've only ever had good experiences with Toshiba/HGST. My Synology now has 4 MG08 Series - 661639 - but only since 2024, so I can't provide any real experience. The NAS reports the drive status monthly and copying around in the NAS can easily be done at over 700MB/s.
