You can see this in the product picture: only the middle, thickest part of the gas pressure spring "extremely short" is still visible after assembly. Most of it is stuck at the bottom of the feet or at the top of the seat. For me, the "plastic collar" (which also looks rather cheap) no longer made sense. Therefore my suggestion: Simply leave it out.
