Cisco Spa 303
I have ordered Cisco SPA 303 and am now facing a problem. I bought a phone adapter for the phone jack in the wall to connect the phone, but the manual says something about Ethernet cable etc.? Do I need to connect the phone to a modem? Do I need such a switch? I'm with UPC and the two ports for the phone on my modem are in a different format.
Hello Mona
The Cisco SPA 303 is a VoIP phone. You cannot plug it directly into the wall. It has to be connected with an Ethernet cable to a router or simply to a network. Then it has to be configured with a SIP account. I don't know if UPC offers this. You can easily get this SIP data from Swisscom, for example. But you can also create a SIP account with another provider. It's similar to the e-mail address. You can be a customer of UPC, but have an e-mail from gmx, for example.
The ports on your UPC modem are for "normal" analogue phones.
I hope I didn't clarify too much ;)
Greetings Michi
The Cisco SPA 303 is an IP phone that must be connected to a router or network. So it cannot simply be plugged into a phone jack.
Connecting it to the router is not enough. Setting up the phone on the router has its pitfalls. You need some technical knowledge, otherwise you have no idea what to enter in which field on the PC. I did not receive the relevant data for setting up the router from Swisscom, at least not from the free support. Swisscom took the view that they only provide support for the phones they sell. Anyone who does not have very good technical knowledge in the telecom sector should keep their hands off this phone.
