I have connected the headphones to the Huawei p20 pro, but the connection is so stiff that listening to music is a pain. What can be done about this? Everything works fine with my laptop

throw away the huwaei p20, buy another phone.
or maybe you can turn off the 'advanced real fanastic bluetooth(tm)' crapware in the bluetooth settings.
