Question about Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic

I have an Apple Macbook with a USB C connection only. Will the keyboard work if I connect it to the Macbook via the USB 3.0 to USB C adapter or does it need to be connected directly to the laptop? I have already had problems with other devices that I wanted to connect to the Macbook via the adapter (they did not accept the adapter), hence the question.
