I have an additional screen for my Surface. This is connected to the Surface via USB-C and the Surface is charged. I bought the Travel Hub so that I can also plug in the Ethernet cable. However, it no longer charges the Surface via the USB-C port of the Travel Hub. Does anyone know if it will charge the Surface if I buy a USB-C to HDMI adapter and plug it into the Travel Hub?

Why not use a Microsoft Surface Dock 2, then everything works with a Super Surface Connect connection if available (unfortunately not available on the latest Surface Pro 12 ARM and Surface Laptop 12 ARM devices).

The HDMI adapter only transmits picture and sound. That's why it won't work.
In addition, the Travel-HUB is only a HUB and not a docking station. The Travel-HUB is not connected directly to a power socket. Therefore, it does not supply power. The Travel HUB only draws the 5V from the Surface so that it can supply the connections with 5V.

I think you're making a mistake here, because your additional monitor has nothing to do with charging your Surface.

What type of Surface do you have? Is the problem more likely to be that you have too few USB ports on the Surface itself? 
Solutions to your problem could be as follows: A Surface docking station, or perhaps an adapter from USB-A to DP. If your monitor has DP. Then you would have the USB-C port free again. Get in touch again. The Community will be happy to help you... ;-)
