i have a problem with the monitor. it says it has 165hz at startup. i only got 144hz and i am not given any higher options. is my device broken?

Try it with a DisplayPort cable. With HDMI you only have 144Hz. I had the same problem with my monitor and with a DisplayPort cable I got 165Hz.

...either set the 165Hz with the latest drivers or in the monitor menu, otherwise defective.
