I currently have an i7 4790, not the K version. For my new PC (MSI Z170I mini ITX, MSI GTX 1070) I wanted to get a K processor. Is it worth it?
Yes,
Since you have a free multiplier and these processors can usually be overclocked well - with the appropriate cooling - you can get some performance from them.
If you are not interested in overclocking (note: if done correctly, this is a very time-consuming "hobby"), you can go for H170 and non-K processors.
Note: Overclocking is done in the Bios and not with manufacturer tools under Windows... ;)
