RØDE smartLav+ incl. SC3 adapter
I bought the Rode smart Lav+ incl. SC3 adapter because I also want to use it for recording directly in Audacity on my laptop. But my laptop does not recognise the microphone. Neither with nor without the adapter. It always shows me only the internal microphone. What can I do to make my laptop recognise the microphone? Thank you very much for your help and best regards Sabrina Lindauer
I tested the combo on my laptop, on a headset socket: I have to LEAVE the adapter off, then the microphone works (tested with the Audio Recorder app under Win 10). The microphone does not work with the adapter.
Please check the symbol on your laptop. Jack sockets are used for microphone, headset and audio out (speaker). If the adapter logic is correct, the mic input should require the SC-3 adapter and a headset input would work without.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to make a reliable remote diagnosis, as there is a muddle of pin assignments in the standards.
First of all, you should find out what kind of jack your notebook has, does it need a 3-pin or 4-pin jack plug?
I assume that a notebook has a 4-pin jack plug.
Then it could be due to the different pin assignment standards. There are two standards, the CTIA and the OMTP standard. Here are more details:

The remedy is a corresponding adapter.
You would have to check the data from the notebook to find out whether this is the case. As far as I know, the Rode smartlav uses the CTIA standard.
