I bought the Lexar SL500 1TB and am very satisfied. The only thing that unsettles me is the big exclamation mark on the back: "CALIFORNIA WARNING, Cancer and Reproductive Harm, www.65Warnings.ca.gov". I've never seen anything like this before, where did it come from? Is it just a standard warning or what potential danger does the SSD pose?
Hi Sebastian, as Lexar is an American company, it has to comply with certain laws in order to market its products. Evidently one of them is the one you mentioned. I did a search and the description "CALIFORNIA WARNING, Cancer and Reproductive Harm, https://www.65warnings.ca.gov" indicates that there are chemicals within the product that when exposed to high levels (temperatures), can create problems in the human body. To simplify: don't download or put documents in the SSD under 40° of sunshine, but otherwise you can use it without problems. I bought it some time ago and rest assured it has no problems, the only thing is that you have to have a phone with a USBC port (from iphone 15 onwards), I have iphone 14 pro and I can't exploit its 'full potential' because to download photos or files I still have to connect it to the computer. I did however have the opportunity to take it on holiday (to the sea in Greece) and 'test' it, my girlfriend has the iphone 15 and I used her iphone and the Lexar for my personal and professional stuff... here too I confirm that there are no problems; I used it on the beach and on a boat, in the sun but for less than 5min each time. In conclusion, you can rest easy about the wording there, if you need an SSD that you can use at all times (if you have a phone with a USBC port) then this is for you.
