Question about RØDE VideoMic NTG

I am setting up a streaming workstation for training purposes and am looking for a suitable microphone. At times, 2-3 people will be in front of the camera at the same time (~2-3m away from the camera) and as the presenters also change regularly, the whole thing should be as uncomplicated as possible, i.e. I would like to do without lavalier microphones if possible. Would the RØDE VideoMic NTG be an alternative for this without having to compromise too much on sound quality?

Helpful answer

The VideoMic NTG is a technically flawless device, I am thrilled. There will always be a loss of sound quality the further away the microphone is. At a distance of 2-3m, a lavalier mic would certainly record cleaner, but yes, with more effort. But you will still understand the students well, just be prepared for some reverberation and background noise.

I would not mount the microphone on the camera, but as close as possible to the speaker, ideally above or below the image, aimed at the speaker's mouth (e.g. with a distance of approx. 50 - 70cm), then the microphone sounds even better than most lavalier microphones. However, the NGT is a shotgun microphone and should therefore always be aimed at the source and may therefore not be ideal for several people at close range. So either keep a little more distance or, even better, as with lavalier microphones, use one mic for each source. Regarding reverberation, some damping is often recommended, e.g. by hanging ceilings, regardless of the type of microphone.

Wonderful, thank you very much for your helpful answers. So I will give the NGT a try and then consider upgrading to one microphone per source if necessary. Many greetings :)
