I am running the Synology DS1010+ at home and would now like to install 5x 4TB. Does this product fit in here and is it supported accordingly?
Hello Stigooo
I currently have a DS1010+ and am running it with five WD Red disks with 6TB (WD60EFRX) connected to an SHR volume with a total of 24TB (DSM version 5.2). Attention. This drive is explicitly listed in Synology's compatibility list. Seagate disks are compatible up to a maximum of 5TB (only model ST5000NM0024 - 1HT170, not or no longer available at digitec). But digitec currently has the WD Red 4TB (WD40EFRX) on sale for 125.- (until 14 July while stocks last). So currently still 1.- Swiss francs cheaper than the Seagate drive you were looking at :-)
Depending on the NAS, you may not be able to increase your existing volume above a threshold, but it is usually possible to create a new volume. Specifically for your case, I found the following:
https://forum.synology.com/enu...
so: if you are running a DS1010+ with DSM 3.0, you have to evacuate all data and create a new volume to have a larger volume than 16 TB in your NAS. but i would advise you to upgrade to DSM 5.2 first anyway (runs much more stable in my past experience). I can't reproduce it 1:1 at the moment, because I'm on DSM 6.x with my NAS.
Yes, they are supported, but if you go over the maximum capacity, it is possible that the system cannot handle more than 15 TB. Check with synology support.
