Thank you for the reply. After checking with a multimeter it seems the power supply is only outputting 7.9v although it is rated at 8.4.
Changing to a coupler with 9v seems to solve the issue. It seems that these Panasonic couplers need to have a chip (for the camera to identify) for them to work with less than 8.4V which this version of the Panasonic DMW-DCC8 does not contain. So if your power supply drops bellow 8.4 it will not work.
