How is this supposed to work? Do you have to set anything or does it just work directly when you plug it in?

You programme the part on the pc. Because everything is programmed in the hardware, it is not recognised, but I would still advise against using it with all the cheat dirt.
But I think it's great for those who want to play on the console with a mouse and keyboard. Because an xbsx or ps5 on the monitor can be such a great gaming pc replacement, in second where the graphics card alone costs 1000Fr+.

Everything can be programmed with the software. Can also be done without but takes a little longer
