The space between the brackets is a little less than 6 cm. You have to subtract something from that because of the "clamping piece". I guess a panel thickness of up to 5 cm should work. 
However, the arm is anything but stable. :( If you fix it and don't have to move it, it's not a problem, otherwise I would consider investing in something more solid.
