hiall, I would like to supply e.g. 3 YealinkT48S phones via poe with power via e.g. a Zyxel GS1900-10HP switch. Cable lengths 20, 30 & 40 metres. What network cable category do I have to choose or is recommended. Is 5e sufficient?

So to answer the question correctly cat5e is designed for gigabit up to 100 meters (btw all higher standards are also designed up to a maximum of 100 meters) cat 6 can handle 10gbits up to something around 40 meters. POE therefore has no problem up to 100 metres with either cat 5 or cat 5e. the main problem why telephones with the power supply unit are often recommended is that not all switches can supply very much power via poe. but as I said, up to 100 metres is no problem.

I used to be a network engineer, so I've done things like that, so I just wanted to share with you how to do it, which I think will help you more than if you don't know anything about the subject.

Now I can't say much about this because I had my phone delivered with a power supply unit. But as far as I know, the network cable has to be 8 wires instead of 4 if the power is to run over the network cable at the same time. In addition, the switch must have the power to supply the phones with power, so it must be designed for this.
