Question about Epson Perfection V39

The Perfection V39 scanner works for me with MacOS Ventura. I use it regularly and access it via "Printers & Scanners". I do not use the Epson applications.

Since a few OS versions ago it was not compatible anymore. I'm not technically-minded, it was something with 16 instead of 8 bit something technology. Anyway, bottom-line it didn't work anymore. I could still keep it working by buying some software that solved the issue, but eventually ditched this for a multi-function thing which is compatible. I bought the Brother MFC-J6530DW which prints, copies and scans up to A3 format and cost not much more than 2x the price of the Epson scanner.
