Hello everyone, I am new to the photo world and have used my dusty Canon 550D again after years. This time not auto but all M as it should be. My question to you is that at the moment my colleague NEOWISE is in the sky, which was also the reason why I took the camera out. I took a few photos with the standard Canon equipment, it looks good, but there's a lot of room for improvement. Of course I tried various combinations (ISO, F/, exposure time etc.) but at some point it just doesn't work any better and NEOWISE can't be seen any better... Question: Could I take better pictures at night with this lens because of the much higher speed (I can't get below F/3.5 with my current lens)? I just want to photograph the night sky with a bit of background on the horizon? If not, which lens would you recommend for night photography (night sky, Milky Way, etc.)? Thank you and best regards
For the night sky and the Milky Way, I would recommend a fast wide-angle lens. For APS-C around 10-15mm. I don't know if there is anything for Canon. The Samyang 12mm with f2. is very popular for this. I don't know if it is also available for Canon.
For the Neowise something longer is recommended. This 50mm could be suitable if you don't want to spend a lot of money. Be careful that the exposure is not too long. I wouldn't go longer than 5-10s. But you will quickly notice when the stars around you turn into lines. Be sure to shoot in RAW. The old 550D could still exceed its limits.
