Hello all What is more recommendable a pro x or the pro 8 I want to use it on the construction site for sketching details or just writing notes or would an ipad pro be more suitable. Because I'll be using windows in the office and I'm worried about compatibility, can anyone help me out.

Helpful answer

For mobile, daily use on the construction site, I would take the Pro X (I have both, Pro 8 as a "workstation" on 2 4k screens in the office and the Pro-X as a mobile device). Pro 8 is much faster, but that is the only advantage. The Pro X can run classic Windows programmes well, now also 64 bit. Except for exotic hardware peripherals, everything runs. The Pro X has three significant advantages that could be relevant for you: 1) battery life, 2) permanent internet connection via integrated sim card, 3) it feels much more mobile because it is much thinner. And maybe it's also relevant on the construction site that it doesn't have ventilation slots where it can rain in.
Surface Pro X is generally underestimated as a work device, in my opinion. I'm not familiar with Apple, I've tried it a few times, it's great for private use (iPhone, etc.), but I couldn't use it for work because of incompatibilities and inflexibilities.

Windows runs on both Surface models.
The Surface Pro X is based on an ARM architecture and therefore has to emulate 64bit.
However, if you only do sketches and notes, this is not a problem.

The Surface you've chosen here is overkill for notes and sketching.
This one would easily do:
Microsoft Surface Pro 8 (13 ", Intel Core i5-1135G7, 8 GB, 256 GB)

As a Sufrace Pro X, this would suffice:
Microsoft Surface Pro X (13 ", Microsoft SQ1, 8 GB, 128 GB)

+ Surface Pen:
Microsoft Surface Pen

Or even cheaper is the iPad 9 with Pen, if available.

Finally, it depends on which programme you would like to use for sketching.
If you use OneNote, it doesn't matter which device you use, because the programme is supported by all of them and the sketches can be easily opened on the PC.
Which device I would recommend depends on your budget and whether you prefer to use Windows or iPadOS.
