Hello all, Can I switch on a device from work via the app or do I have to be at home or on the same network?

Yes, you can do that with the myStrom app.

What also works with iPhone: add myStrom to HomeKit; a hub at home (Apple TV, iPad, HomeKit-compatible router) then passes on the commands via LAN.
