Good day, need a handy second device for work that supports mainly surfing and office applications (e.g. to create quick, short notes or to work on a meeting in OneNote).
I am now considering whether to buy the Samung Galasy Tap S8+ (light and fast, but more limited in apps) or better the Surface Pro 9 (8 GB Ram, 265 GB memory, full Windows). Does anyone here already have experience with both devices? Especially working with DeX from Samsung. How are the most common apps scaled on this screen?
You are comparing apples and oranges! Surface is based on Windows, Tab S8+ on Android - so the operation and programmes are completely different!
- But 1: with a Book Cover Keyboard you can write just as comfortably as on a laptop and thus have almost the advantages of BOTH worlds. - But 2: Although there are various good office applications for Android with which you can edit PowerPoint, Word, etc., they NEVER come close to the full-blown PC versions in terms of functionality (but they almost do).
- Conclusion1: For "office-light" needs (editing or looking at a document now and then) and surfing, a tablet is the clear choice, as there is much less hassle with drivers, updates, power requirements, weight, programme crashes than with ANY Windows-based device. A tablet now probably covers 99% of a user's application needs. - Conclusion 2: For heavy use of Office and surfing, a Windows-based device (or just MacOS). This gives you the universal freedom to master ANY demanding application (e.g. photo editing, video editing, casual gaming etc.). However, you are buying this "eierlegende Wollmilchsau" with (for me unacceptable) potential problems that a PC brings with it.
Conclusion: Ease of Use -> Tablet; universal Power -> Laptop
