That's true, but with external SSDs, the USB-A may not supply enough current. When connected, the external storage is found, but when it is written, it disappears again, so it may need an additional power supply, depending on the current requirement. But for memory plugs and webcams, an additional power connection is superfluous.

The ICY BOX IB-AC6401 also works without an additional power supply.
